BARRY FELSTED STROUD
Barry Felsted Stroud passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of Carol (née Wannan), father of Lesley, and predeceased by his daughter, Laralyn. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Donald, and the most cherished grandfather to Madison, Gwen, and Logan Buitenhuis. Born in Kent county, England, Barry immigrated to Canada at the age of 13. He worked summers picking worms and stocking shelves at A&P, which paid his way to graduate from the University of Toronto with a double major in Math and Physics. In 1960, before graduation, he was hired by the Toronto District School Board to teach physics at Danforth Technical School. Barry's sailing days required self-reliance and teamwork, skills that translated into leadership roles for a 40-year career with the Toronto Board of Education. He became principal of Western Technical, Oakwood Collegiate, Brockton High School, Director of Principals for Canadian Youth, and finishing as Principal of Boyne Outdoor and Urban Studies Centers in Toronto. Building was always his fervent hobby, involving his students, colleagues, and friends. He designed and built a trimaran, a family home on the escarpment, and established a renovation and pool construction company. Barry was a devoted grandfather, driving to unending soccer, riding, and jiu-jitsu tournaments. He lived to see and be proud of the fine adults his grandchildren have become and celebrate their academic successes. In his free time, he loved traveling around the world with his wife of 57 years and lifelong friends. Barry's reliability was admired and gave support to all he met.
