JOHN FOX

John Fox, Professor Emeritus at McMaster University, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 78. He received a BA from City College in New York and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, both in sociology. John wrote numerous books and articles on social statistics, statistical computing and statistical graphics, and in sociology and social psychology. He co-authored many popular packages for the open-source R statistical computing environment. John taught at the University of Alberta, York University, and McMaster University, where he was the Senator McMaster Professor of Social Statistics. He also presented short courses and workshops in various venues. John leaves behind his wife, Bonnie; son, Jesse; and grandson, Jude; as well as extended family, friends, and former students across the world.
