Joan ELZINGA

Joan Elzinga passed away peacefully at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice on July 8, 2026, at the age of 88. Born Jantje Crans in Morra, Friesland, Netherlands on August 15, 1937, she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1947. On March 28, 1955, she married John Elzinga, who predeceased her in November 2004. Together they had five children: Edward, who predeceased her, Deanna, married to Ted Boomsma, Melanie, married to Steve Flokstra, Jonathan, who predeceased her, and Randy, married to Helen Xu. She was also blessed with ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Clara Crans, her sister Shirley Schotsman, and her brothers Jack and Wayne. She is survived by her siblings Charles, Don, and Henry. Known for her love of flowers, gardening, bird-watching, and sending cards, Joan will be deeply missed by her relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at the Mount Hope Community Christian Reformed Church on July 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice and RVilla Caledonia Assisted Living for their care. Memorial donations to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or Hamilton District Christian High School would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to Bay Gardens-Hamilton.
