He was predeceased by his parents, Edward England Dodson and Gladys Helen (Dewar), his brother Edward, and his girlfriend Betty McLean. James is survived by the mother of his children, Barbara, and his children Kilby (George), Lindsay (Christopher), James (Carolyn), and Christopher (Jackie). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Natalie (Dawson), Maxwell (Keely), Kelsey (Brady), Ali (Bryce), Sam (Isabel), Jordyn, Zoe, and Henry, as well as his great grandchild Maverick (Natalie).
