NORA ISABEL ATHOE

Nora Isabel Athoe (nee McVittie) passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by family at Hospice Wellington. She was the beloved wife of the late Barry Athoe for almost 60 years, the much-loved mother of Margie Charland, and mother-in-law to Daniel. Nora will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Jessica (Darryn) and Kevin. She is survived by her brother, Bob McVittie (Judy); nephews, Brandon (Catherine), Ryan, and Jason (Martha); brother-in-law, James Athoe (Carol); Lisa (Kelly) Shoniker and Gary (Cheryl) Athoe. Born on July 7, 1936, to parents Nora and Roy McVittie, Nora lived her early years in Barrie before moving to Guelph. She enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a teacher at Bedford Park Public School in Toronto. Nora and Barry enjoyed spending time with family, travelling with friends, and summering at their cottage in Southampton. The family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 3 - 5 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Parkinson's Canada, Diabetes Canada, or Hospice Wellington are appreciated.
