Catherine Mary SHERLOCK
Catherine Mary Sherlock (née Carere), age 97, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 17, 2025. She was born on November 10, 1927, in Guelph, to Catarina Maria Vincenza Giovinazzo and Giacomo Domenico Antonio Carere. Catherine is survived and mourned by her son John Mark, daughter-in-law Yenisey Hernandez Infante, beloved granddaughter Agnes Aurora Sherlock Hernandez, her sister Rita Stilo (Frank) and sister-in-law Shirley, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, James Vincent Sherlock; her brothers and sisters, Chester (Shirley), Dr. Romulus (Madeleine), William Carere, Cosimo Carere, Mary Tessaro, Fortunata Carere, Jack Carere, and Frank Carere; her mother and father; her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Dool (William), Reverend Bill Sherlock, Gerald Sherlock (Bernice), Most Reverend John Michael Sherlock (retired Bishop of London), Edward Monahan (Eleanor), and Reverend Philip Sherlock. Also left to mourn are her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleanor Monahan (Edward) and Allan (Annamarie), and many friends and neighbours. Catherine attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Loretto Academy, and received her teacher's certificate from Stratford Normal School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree with studies in physical education and history from the University of Western Ontario in 1954. Catherine was a teacher at Sacred Heart School, and a teacher and basketball coach at Notre Dame High School, Guelph, and Cathedral Girls High School, Hamilton, where she was the Head of the Physical Education Department. She retired from her teaching career as a teacher/librarian at St. John's Elementary School in Oakville.
