Bernice McCartney
Bernice McCartney passed away peacefully at Southlake Hospital, Newmarket on June 2, 2024, in her 88th year with the love of her family surrounding her. She was much loved by her husband and best friend, Larry McCartney and her brother, Paul Cronkwright (Lorraine). Bernice was a loving mother to her children Wendy, Steven (Elaine) and Jennifer, and grandchildren Erin, Megan, Benjamin, Liam and Kaitlyn. She was a warm and caring aunt to her several nieces and nephews. Bernice devoted the early years of her 68 year marriage to raising her children. She later entered retail employment, and subsequently volunteered for the Red Cross (now Canadian Blood Services) before being hired as a Regional Blood Drive Coordinator. Bernice grounded her family through several moves throughout Ontario, as well as six years abroad including Saudi Arabia and Washington, DC. Outgoing and very sociable, Bernice loved to travel and made many long term friendships. A lover of music and an excellent pianist, Bernice also loved to decorate and became an accomplished water colour artist. In her later years, Bernice continued to play the piano and to draw, even as she battled dementia. A visitation and funeral service will be held at Highland Hills Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12492 Woodbine Ave, Gormley, Ontario on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 1:30 pm.
