Irmgard BOETTCHER

Irmgard Charlotte Boettcher passed away quietly on April 7, 2026, in Goderich, Ontario, at the age of 87. She was born on January 21, 1938, in the Free City State of Danzig, which became Gdansk, Poland after WWII. The youngest of seven siblings, the family escaped to the East and then West Germany. As a refugee and a survivor, she became a very determined, resilient and remarkable woman able to adapt to all the changes that life was to bring her. She married Kurt Boettcher and emigrated to Canada in 1964 with their two daughters. She dedicated her life to St. Mary's Church German Congregation in Kitchener, organizing cultural events for the community. She was a founding member of The Marien Chor, which began over 50 years ago and exists to this day. Her love of singing led her to join the Concordia Club Mixed Choir. Travel was a great passion and together with her husband and a group of friends, known as the Rasselbande, travelled all over Canada in their RVs. When not travelling, the family spent 47 years at their cottage on Lake Huron. The later years were spent in Goderich, where she became known as the dog cookie lady. Here, for the past 19 years, she has sold her home-baked dog cookies at the local farmer's market. She had a zest and curiosity for life and was always willing and excited to try something new. She cared for everyone deeply and will be forever missed by her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, dogs, and by her dear friends and family who knew and loved her.
