Terrence 'Terry' Cleland Johnston
Terrence Cleland Johnston, known affectionately as Terry, Dad, Papa Bear, Uncle Terry, Coach, Mr. J, and TJ, passed away on September 9, 2026, at Parkwood Hospital, just weeks after celebrating his milestone 80th birthday surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his beloved wife Jill (Brash), children Eric and Jen (McGillis), Sarah and Dan (Oughton), Kate, and Ian and Emily (Wilkinson), along with grandchildren Eli, Davis, Evie, Cooper, Griffey, Addy, and Isla. Terry also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a great-great niece, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, and many cousins, as well as thousands of students he taught and mentored since 1970. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Annie Duff and his sister Carolyn Ingram. The family expresses gratitude to the medical team and staff at Parkwood Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care. In memory of Terry, donations of blood are encouraged. Terry has donated his brain for concussion research, and cremation has taken place.
