Mervyn John Reid McCormick
Mervyn John Reid McCormick passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in Scotland in 1930, he emigrated to Canada with his mother at the age of five and grew up in Toronto and Newmarket. He married his wife, Clarice, in 1964, and they spent 60 years together. Mervyn served in the Canadian Military for 32 years, retiring as a Master Warrant Officer in 1985. He continued to support the armed forces as a civilian and later operated a restaurant with his wife before retiring to Elliot Lake in 2014. Mervyn was an active participant in his Church and a leader in several organizations, including The Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and Shriners. He enjoyed hobbies such as stamp and coin collecting, model railroading, and bridge playing, achieving the status of Gold Life Master with ACBL. Mervyn is survived by his wife, Clarice; daughter, Tolleen; son, Derek; grandsons, Ben, Jesse, Andrew, Jacob, and Wyatt; great-grandsons, Caleb and Arlo; stepsister, Millie; brother-in-law, Bill; sisters-in-law, Queenie and Mary; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Alice; brothers-in-law, Bruce and Alec; and stepsister, Barbara. Mervyn's funeral will be held in the early spring at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Elliot Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Shriner's Children's hospital. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services.
