Elizabeth "Libby" Lena TOEWS
Libby Toews passed away on May 1, 2026, at the age of 76 at Margaret's Place Hospice in Dundas, Ontario with family by her side. Born in Toronto, Elizabeth discovered at a young age a love for art, architecture, and design and pursued them with studies at the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Moving to Hamilton, she worked as a slide librarian for the Arts Department at McMaster and then for the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) for the City of Hamilton. Following marriage in 1983, Libby lived the rest of her life in her beloved Dundas. While raising her sons, Libby was an eager volunteer and board member at the Carnegie Gallery and the Dundas Museum and Archives. Elizabeth was a vital and energetic person, always happy to chat, lend a hand and get involved. She was a friend to many, and a familiar face to many more about town. Always ready with a story, a fact, a sly joke or a tidbit of knowledge, Libby always sought to connect in a real way with those she met. Libby was beloved by many and will be always missed. Predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Irene Measures; and her sister-in-law, Leah (George). She is survived by her husband, Lorne Toews; sons, Colin (Taryn) and Christopher; her grandson, Alton; her brother, Gerry (Sue); and her nephews, Ross (Brittany) and Keith; as well as her sister-in-law, Elaine. Through her involvement in the arts community in Dundas and her open nature Libby made more close friends than can be named here. She was privileged to still have friends from early childhood and was finding new ones until her passing. Deep thanks goes to the caring team at St. Joseph's and Margaret's Place Hospice. A Celebration of Life will occur on May 14, 2026, at Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre, 100 King Street East, Dundas, ON from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., with tributes beginning at 2:00 p.m. Elizabeth can be remembered through donations to the specified charity.
