Danford Royce MacKAY
Danford Royce MacKay, DDS, passed away peacefully, with his children by his side on February 3, 2026, at Hardy Terrace in Mount Pleasant, Ontario, in his 93rd year. Born on August 14, 1933, in Port Arthur, Ontario, Dan was the youngest of eight children, to Donald and Miriam (née Jerrett) McKay (MacKay). He graduated in 1962 from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry. His dental career brought him and his former wife, Sandra Ashenhurst, to Dundas, where he practiced dentistry with dedication and compassion for more than 40 years, while raising his beautiful family. During his many years in Dundas, Dan was an active member of St. James Anglican Church and a well-known presence in the community. He will be remembered for his steady manner, professional commitment, sense of humour and deep pride in his family. Left to celebrate his life are his wife, Bernadette; his children, whom he loved beyond measure and was so proud: David (Mary Ellen), Susan, Graeme (Wendi) and Danny (Lisa). He was an adored and loving Poppa to Meghan (Matthew), Hayley (David), Emma (Ryan), Gillian, Jordan, Grace, Isabella, Jacqueline and Devon; and great-granddaughters, Ella and Tilly. Dan was predeceased by his parents; his siblings; and his granddaughter, Katherine Reese MacKay. Family, friends and former patients are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. at The Shawn & Ed Brewing Company, 65 Hatt Street, Dundas, Ontario. Memorial donations in Dan's memory may be made to Margaret's Place Hospice at St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas.
