Bette Avis ABBEY
Bette Avis Abbey passed away peacefully after an illness at St. Peter's Hospital on June 22, 2026, at the age of 82. She was the beloved wife of the late James Abbey. Bette is lovingly remembered by her children, Daron and his wife Ann-Marie, and Daniel and his wife Leah. She was a caring grandma of Brendan, Kurtis, Sarah, and Connor. Bette will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Susan Sherman, her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends, including those at St. Joseph's Estates and her quilting friends. Born to William and Gladys Smith in April 1944, Bette grew up in Dundas and attended Dundas Central Public and Parkside Highschool. She later attended teachers' college in Hamilton and worked as a teacher at Yorkview Elementary School until she became a mom in 1972. Bette enjoyed traveling, volunteering, and pursuing her artistic passions, including quilting, which was her greatest passion. She was predeceased by her husband, James Abbey. Friends and family are invited to the Turner Family Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 4-5 p.m. for a visitation, followed by a Funeral Service at 5 p.m. and a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bette Abbey to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Peter's Hospital, or Dundas Community Service.
