William THOMPSON

The family announces with deep sorrow the passing of William R. "Wariienton" Thompson at Tsi Ion Kwa Nonh So'te Long Term Care Home in Akwesasne on August 8, 2026, at the age of 86. He was the beloved partner of the late Frances Benedict (née Jones). William is survived by his chosen children: Francine Benedict (Greg Saj), the late Lawrence Benedict (the late Karen), Thomas Benedict (Kateri), Robert Benedict (the late Fernande), and Patrick Benedict (Cheryl). He leaves behind his chosen grandchildren: Lesia, Robert, Elaine, Jason, Clifford, Clayton, the late Christopher, Maryann, Robert, Crystal, Alicia, Kyle, Brandon, and Katie; along with 49 chosen great-grandchildren and many chosen great-great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his close friend Peter Back (the late Josie). William was predeceased by his parents Joe and Margaret (née Leaf) Thompson, his grandfather Teion'kwatoronni, and his aunt Agnes Leaf, who played significant roles in his upbringing. Family will receive visitors at Lahaie and Sullivan West Branch, 20 Seventh Street W, Cornwall, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. Donations in his memory may be made to Tsi Ion Kwa Nonh So'te Long Term Care Home.
