John Edwin Hartley

John Edwin Hartley passed away on March 5, 2024, in his 96th year. He was the loving husband of Shirley Kathleen Hartley (nee Palin), whom he married at 21 and celebrated 74 years of married life with in February of this year. Predeceased by his sisters Barbara and Betty, John is survived by his children, John (Louise), Paul (Patricia), and Jeffrey (Lindsay); his grandchildren, Scott, Laura (Melissa), Christopher (Sarah), Joshua (Cea), Ryan (Jessica), Sanderson (Suzanne), and McKay (Rachel); and his great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Peyton, Brooke, Connor, Orin, Jason, James, and Leilu. He will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews. John was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed a long business career, spending 35 years at the Ontario Caterpillar dealership and 15 years in senior financial roles with one of southern Ontario's largest paving contractors. John and his wife, Shirley, were volunteers in their community and served on various boards, including the Pension Board of the International Union of Operating Engineers, where John served as a Trustee for 35 years. Arrangements are entrusted to the Chatterson Funeral Home in Collingwood. Remembrances may be made to Heritage Community Church, Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum, or The Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation - Campbell House.
