Lloyd Allen WELTER

Lloyd Allen Welter, 82, of China Grove, NC, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Al was the only child of Genevieve Welter (Hugh). He and his beloved wife, Barbara Anne, moved to North Carolina in 1987. Al was a self-made individual who purchased McRae Auto Recyclers in 1967, earned his mechanic's license in 1968, and started eight racing-related ventures. He owned five businesses, including Millbridge Speedway, which he purchased in 1989 and sold in 2014. Al officially retired in 2015, but remained active until his first trip to Brazil in June 2025. He was also involved in real estate ventures across Rowan County, taking great pride in improving properties and leaving his community better than he found it. Al had a soft spot for animals and took in misunderstood dogs, rehabilitating and rehoming them, and also had a collection of exotic pets over the years.
