Mary Ellen Varney passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on January 30, 2026, at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario. Born on May 20, 1942, in Chatham, Ontario, she was a devoted elementary school teacher and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University. Mary Ellen will be deeply missed by her children, Carolynne, Christopher, and Andrea, as well as her grandsons Alex, Jack, Sam, and Luke. She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Wilfred Mulhern, and her brother, Bernie Mulhern. Mary Ellen is survived by her siblings Patty, Elaine, and Paul.
