Smith Funeral Home

Charles 'Charlie' 'Chas' Elwood Drennan passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Bluewater Health, at the age of 89. He was the loving father of Shawn (Cheryl) Drennan and Sheila (the late Shane Hackett) Lampard. Charlie was a cherished grandfather of Scott, Cole, Megan, and Hayley, and a treasured great-grandfather of Pavel. He is survived by nephew Dave (Sue) Wilson and niece Laurie (Tom) McChesney. Charlie was predeceased by his first wife Marilyn (1990), his second wife Margery (2014), his sister Reta Drennan, and his niece Doreen McAllister. Charlie had a lengthy and successful career with Union Gas, where he began by reading meters and later retired from the mapping and planning department. Throughout his career, Charlie became certified in the gas, plumbing, and electrical fields, making him a valuable resource. In retirement, he was called back to consult and inspect. Charlie was also known for his work as the Watkins Man and was a familiar face at the Brigden Fair, Western Fair, and the Plowing Matches. He owned and operated The Bluebird Antiques and Collectibles, which decorated the walls of Stokes Inland and often lent props to the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia for their productions. Charlie was involved in kids' athletics, both as a coach and through his terms as the Chatham Minor Hockey President. He selflessly coached many sports, including hockey, baseball, and bowling, and on one occasion, his bantam bowling team made it to BC, winning 3rd place overall in Canada. Stemming from his involvement in youth sports, Charlie started a trophy-making business, ensuring the best medals and trophies for the teams. Cremation has taken place, and in keeping with Charles' wishes, a private celebration to honour his life will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to a charity of your choice, with cheques only accepted at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
