Cecilia "Cecile" Wortner

Cecilia "Cecile" Wortner, née Cernanec, died peacefully at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home on August 12, 2026, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of the late John and Maria Cernanec. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Wortner, who predeceased her in 2017, her daughter Lynda Mae Raymond (predeceased 2013), her son Peter Wortner and his wife Linda, and grandchildren Andrew Lucan, Jonathan Wortner, Timothy Wortner and Nathaniel Wortner, as well as great‑grandchildren Brett and Hunter Lucan. Her siblings include Anne Manak, the late Stan Cernanec (survived by Carole), Steve Cernanec (survived by Pat), and Mary Lutzer (survived by Cliff); she was predeceased by an infant brother, Andrew, and is also survived by sister‑in‑law Clara, the widow of Stanley Wortner. Cecile was a co‑operator of Wortner Gun Works with her husband, a devoted parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Ursula's Catholic Church, and a long‑time member of the Catholic Women’s League. She was active in the Chatham Quilt Guild and enjoyed black‑powder target and trap shooting in her youth. Friends may gather on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. A Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday at St. Ursula's Parish, 205 Tweedsmuir Avenue West, Chatham at 11:00 a.m., with burial at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
