Peter Charles Coutts passed away on January 26, 2026, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. Born in Toronto, he moved to New Hamburg as a child and later to Southgate Road in Galt, where he became a 'west-sider.' Pete loved to fix things and, as a twelve-year-old, took apart his father's brand-new lawnmower just to see how it worked and then put it together again. He started his business, Coutts Mechanical Service, in 1976, which he operated for 36 years, building many loyal and long-standing customer relationships. He will be fondly remembered for his friendly smile and willingness to help. Pete loved cars and, in 2000, finished the restoration of his 1964 Chevy Impala SS Convertible, taking it on the road through 13 states to attend the Hot August Nights car show in Reno, Nevada. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Stewart (Atkinson); his sister, Patti Goertzen of Cambridge; his brother, Paul, and his wife, Pat, of Springfield, Nova Scotia; and nieces Laura Van Landschoot and Marci Coutts. Pete was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Fern Coutts, and his brother-in-law, Bill Goertzen. He was the much-loved 'spousal father' of Craig Stewart (Carla Lindemann), Ian Stewart (Jessica Persaud), and Anna Stewart. Pete was a devoted 'Poppy' to Lily, Owen, Logan, Simone, Chris, and Jenn. He had a special relationship with the Wardle family, who played a large role in his life.
