Barthel Funeral Home

Grace Esther Thompson (née Wallace) passed away peacefully at St. Andrew's Terrace, Cambridge, on September 5th, at the age of 96. Born in Toronto, Ontario on November 20, 1927, Grace supported her husband and raised her family with quiet strength and unconditional love. As a young woman she sang in the famed Leslie Bell Singers and her passion for singing continued throughout her life. She was a dedicated volunteer, visiting and running errands for elderly and shut-in members of her community. A woman of deep faith, she gave generously of her time and talents to the United Church of Canada; serving in the UCW, singing in church choirs, and was instrumental in reopening Zion United Church in Rob Roy, Ontario. She died as she lived, at peace with God, and is fondly remembered by all. Grace is predeceased by her husband, Doug (1923-2008) and survived by her children, Mark (Rob), Anne (Wayne), Bruce (Barb), and Cathy (Paul); her grandchildren, David (Rachel) Esther (Justin), Clare (Kurtis), Will and Luke; and great grandchildren, Eliot, Althea, and Abigail. The family will receive friends at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge on Saturday, September 21st, from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. A reception, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and followed at 3:00 p.m. by a funeral service and interment, will be held on Sunday, September 22nd, at Zion United Church, in Rob Roy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to World Vision or the Bruce Trail Conservancy.
