Donald "Don" Robert YOUNG
Donald Robert Young of Cambridge passed away on December 5, 2025, following complications from cancer surgery. Born in Cochrane, Ontario, to Bertha and George Young, the family moved to Cambridge, where he grew up alongside his older brothers, Paul and Richard. He enjoyed family, friends, and the kind of 'good trouble' from adventures with friends. In his early 20s, he married Jean Hillier, and they shared more than 60 years together, until her passing in 2024. With Cambridge as home, they raised five kids, Karen (Scott), Christine (Jack), Sarah, Robert (Kim), and Scott (Lisa), in the house they built together in 1989. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Donald leaves behind nine grandchildren, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Joshua, Hillary, George, Zachary, Henry, Oliver, and Silas, each a source of deep pride and joy. Donald was dedicated to family, community, and service as a long-standing member of St. John's Anglican Church for nearly 50 years. He was a supporter of local hospitals and his children's activities, including skiing, Scouting, Hockey, and the Lake Association. His career began at Canadian General Tower and later he led ACLO Compounders, transforming it into an industry leader in plastics recycling and manufacturing. In retirement, he stayed active in several ventures, including metal work with Kitcam. Donald was happiest when he had a project on the go, whether at home, the shop, or the family cottage on Drag Lake. Friendships were not unique to Haliburton with Cambridge friends, including the Finks, Tremaines, Craggs, Nears and many others. Donald will be remembered for his generosity, thoughtful presence, devotion to family, and a lifetime of building, supporting, and quietly strengthening the people and communities around him.
