Walter Petrash died peacefully in his sleep on April 12, 2026, at the age of 95, three days after joyfully celebrating his 95th birthday. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Corky (Anne Mosso), his son, Lou (Linda), daughter, Anne Marie (Kevin), his grandson, Ben, and his only surviving sibling, Olga Chorney of Seattle, Washington. Born on a farm in Sundown, Manitoba, Walter headed east as a young man. He started his Ontario working life at Hamilton's Unemployment Insurance Office where he met his wife Corky. Walter forged a career at Revenue Canada, finishing his 25 years as Toronto's Chief of Collections and Verifications. Upon retirement, he was recruited by the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. which enabled him to travel to various countries around the world. Visitation will be held at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington, on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. The Family Tributes will begin at 10 a.m. Reception and Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
