Thomas is predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Leonard Shiels; his wife, Vivienne West; his sister, Irene Linzmayer; and his great-grandchild, Serenity Heng. He is survived by his brother, Carl Shiels, and his children, Michael Shiels (Susan Bies), Steve Shiels (Anne Welch-Shiels), Judy Shiels, and Karen Cranswick (Dan Cranswick).
