Joyce (nee Warden) SUMPTER
Joyce (nee Warden) Sumpter passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Burlington on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 96. She was the beloved wife of the late Barry, who predeceased her in 2009, after 46 years of marriage. Joyce was a loving mother to Gary (Debbie) and a cherished grandmother of Emily and Katie. She was predeceased by her brother Ernie. Joyce is fondly remembered by many friends and family. A resident of the Ravenswood community for 54 years, Joyce was a devoted homemaker who treasured her time with family. Joyce and her late husband Barry were avid gardeners, winning the Mayor's Cup at the City of Burlington's Civic Rose Awards in 1984 for the most beautiful garden. Their garden won numerous other horticultural awards over the years, and Joyce continued gardening into her nineties. Joyce was a resident of Sunrise for the past three years. The family would like to thank all staff for their compassionate care, especially during the last month of her life. Visitation will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, BURLINGTON, on Saturday, April 11 from 12-1 p.m., with the Funeral Service to follow in the Chapel at 1 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
