Jette Toft (née Sorensen) HELM

Jette Toft Helm (née Sorensen) quietly passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the age of 82. She was predeceased by Gord Layhew (2020), her much-loved spouse, after a 36-year partnership. Jette was also predeceased by her parents, Knud (Ken) Sorensen and Elisabet Sorensen, and later by her stepfather, Gerrit Smoor. Her family immigrated from Denmark in 1951, initially settling in Toronto and later moving to St. Catharines, where they operated the Danish Bakery on the Market Square. Jette is survived by brothers Ole Sorensen (Ottawa) and Hugo Sorensen (Megan) (Caledon). Additionally, Jette's nephews and nieces Christian, Kai, Will, Cody, and Catherine all gave her wonderful memories as they were growing up. Her extended family also includes nieces Stephanie Allardyce and Jennifer Layhew, both of Ottawa. Jette's career spanned 50 years with the CIBC, working in various locations and departments. Jette travelled extensively throughout the world, enjoying many diverse sites and experiences. Cremation has taken place. Honouring Jette's wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
