Gelena "Dean" Jorgenson

Gelena 'Dean' Jorgenson, née Hopkins, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, including her granddaughter Sabrina. Dean was predeceased by her husband Johnny, sons John and Mitch, and son-in-law Cornell. She is survived by her sisters Julie Hopkins and Sally Weir, daughters Susan Coyne and Laurie Smith, grandchildren Spencer, Danny, Clara, Sabrina, Kaitlin, Erika, and Kyla, and 11 great-grandchildren. Born in Tobermory, Ontario, to Milton and Clara Hopkins, Dean grew up as the eldest of eight children. She met her husband Johnny in Tobermory and together they built a life in Burlington, raising four children. Dean devoted herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother and later worked as a teacher's aide and with the Red Cross. She will be remembered for her practicality, resourcefulness, and ability to make something out of nothing. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Smiths Funeral Home.
