Frances (née van Vierzen) Vanderhout (Hoekstra)

Frances Vanderhout passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in the Netherlands, she was the loving wife of the late Mac Vanderhout and previously of Peter Hoekstra, who passed away in 1992. Frances was the dear mother of Annette and her husband Steve, Jamie and his wife Syd, Jan-Peter and his wife Catelyn, the late Wendy, and Nick and his wife Lisa. She was also a stepmother to Dwayne and Linda Vanderhout, and Desiree and Antony Zimbalatti. Frances was adored by her grandchildren, to whom she was known as Omi, including Adelle and her husband Eric, Nathan and his wife Jenn, Jennifer, Brad and his wife Kathleen, Sarah, James and his wife Maddie, Stephanie and her husband John-Michael, Peter and his wife Ashley, Matthew and his wife Fillipe, Olivia, and Lili. She also delighted in her great- and great-great-grandchildren. Frances is survived by her beloved brother Nico van Vierzen and his wife Wilma, as well as special nephews and nieces in the Netherlands and eastern Ontario. A Celebration of Life will be held at Smith's Funeral Home in Burlington on July 19th at 2 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to Shalom Manor in Grimsby would be appreciated.
