Donald Alfred Cassells

Donald Alfred Cassells passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne Cassells (Kyle), who predeceased him in 2021, after over 71 years of marriage. Donald was a loving father of Kim, who predeceased him in 2023, and Lynn, and her husband John. He was a proud papa to Amy, Richard and his wife Angela, Lochrey and his wife Jami, and Matthew and his wife Jazmynn. Donald was also a great grandfather of Cameron, Chloe, Colin, Anthony, Colby, Lennyn, Sawyer, and Kason. He is survived by his sister Caroline. Donald will be remembered for his kindness, his love of traveling with Anne to Daytona Beach, Florida, his love of all sports, and for his time working at Stelco, where he was a proud chief union steward of Local 1005. The family would like to extend their warm thanks to Dr. Tepper and Dr. Pyle of the MAiD program for their compassionate and heartfelt care provided to Donald and his family. They also wish to thank all of the Acclaim PSW's, nurses, and healthcare administrators who took care of Donald over the past months. Instead of flowers, a donation can be made to Sanctuary in Toronto, which provides healthcare and services to marginalized people, including those struggling with homelessness, addiction, and mental illness. A very special thank you to Dr. Charles VanBaardwijc and his assistant Sherree for the exceptional care and kindness provided to Donald for many years. Visitation will be held at Smith's Funeral Home, 485 Brant St., Burlington on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 12 - 1 p.m., where a funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 pm. Internment will take place at a later date at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, and the celebration of life will follow at Ye Old Squire, 550 Fennell Ave E., Hamilton.
