Roberta Paulette Alguire

Roberta Paulette Alguire, affectionately known as Polly, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at Kingston General Hospital, at the age of 83. Born on October 12, 1942, she was the cherished daughter of the late Robert McWhirter and Nan Brown. Polly dedicated 47 years to the retail industry in Athens, starting in the grocery sector and eventually owning Alguires Meat Market. After selling the shop, she worked at Athens Freshmart and retired from the Athens LCBO. A positive spirit, she enjoyed simple pleasures like puzzles, shopping, and Sunday drives, as well as weekly brunches with family and friends. Polly is survived by her son Scott and grandchildren Danny and Madison, her sister Pearl Layng, and sisters-in-law Doris, Joyce, and Beverly. She was predeceased by her brothers Alec and Russell. A graveside service will be held at Glen Elbe Cemetery on September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by fellowship at Athens United Church Hall. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Athens United Church.
