JAMES AUSTIN CARRUTHERS

James Austin Carruthers of Brampton, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by his family. Born on November 9, 1939, to Dr. Walter and Edna Mae 'Julie' Carruthers, he married Karen (née Storer) in 1971 and together they raised their children, Sara and Ian. James will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen of 55 years; daughter, Sara (Craig); son, Ian (Lisa); his grandchildren, Cameron, Callum, Ryan, and Brennan; his brother, Dr. Christopher Carruthers (late Donna); his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kristan and Joe McKercher; many nieces and nephews; extended family, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen, and brother, Walter. A Memorial Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Emmanuel United Church, 420 Balmoral Dr., Brampton, Ontario, from 11 a.m.-12 noon, immediately followed by a Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
