LCDR William (Bill) Pitul passed away on March 25, 2026, at the age of 94 years. Born in Niagara Falls on June 27, 1931, to parents Lawrence and Helen Pitul, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy as an Ordinary Seaman, Radio Communicator on August 22, 1950. He was promoted through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer Second Class in 1966 and subsequently received his commission as a Communications Officer in 1968, retiring as LCDR. During his career, Bill served on ships Magnificent, Trinity, Nootka, Kooteney, and Restigouche, and at bases CFB Halifax, Fleet School, CFB Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, CFB Naden in British Columbia, CFB Kingston, Ontario, and Navel Engineering Unit Atlantic, Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre, Halifax, Leadership School, and Communication School, as well as radio stations at Albro Lake, Mill Cove, and Newport Corner in Nova Scotia. In 1979, he was promoted to LCDR and retired on August 22, 1985. He then pursued further employment in the training section of the Regional Cadet Unit Atlantic until 1992. Bill moved from Dartmouth, NS to Musquodoboit Harbour, NS, where he enjoyed time in his workshop creating crafts and his vegetable garden. He became active with the Yacht Club, Twin Oaks/Birches Hospital Foundation, and the Eastern Marine Branch 161 Royal Canadian Legion. Predeceased by his wife Vivian Lois (Anderson) and sister Titania Napper, Bill leaves daughters Laura Helena Gay (George, deceased) and Tina Vanda O'Keefe (George), granddaughter Jillian May Poirier (Chris), great-granddaughters Fallon and Autumn, sisters Elizabeth Feaver (Pat), Rose Marie Reed (Bill, deceased), and Lily Ann Olsen (Howie, deceased), and many nephews and nieces. In 2016, William married his dear friend of nine years, Mary Jane Bowden.
