MARGRET EVELYN DEWAR
Margret Evelyn Dewar died peacefully on May 25, 2026, at the age of 88, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. Born on February 20, 1938, in Toronto, Evelyn was the daughter of Dr. William F. Dewar and Margaret Shaver. She was the mother of Douglas Shirriff and Elizabeth Shirriff, and a proud grandmother to Danielle and Katherine. Evelyn is survived by her sisters, Nancy Birtch and Penelope Booth, as well as her niece, Karen Gold, and nephew, Stephen Longstaffe. Evelyn was predeceased by none as mentioned. She attended Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute and was an avid figure skater. Evelyn worked as a waitress at the Banff Springs Hotel and later graduated from Victoria College, University of Toronto, with a degree in secondary school education. She devoted many years to teaching with the Etobicoke Secondary School Board, retiring in 1996. After retirement, Evelyn taught English in Nowy Sącz, Poland, and enjoyed extensive travels. In 2007, she moved from Toronto to Barrie, where she made new friends and appreciated her wonderful neighbours. Evelyn had a lifelong love of animals and many beloved pets. She was a dedicated supporter of the Conservative Party of Canada. The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses and staff at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for their exceptional care. In memory of Evelyn, donations may be made to the Toronto Humane Society.
