Lena Gilhuis

Lena Gilhuis passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at the age of 99 years. She is now home with her loving Heavenly Father and Saviour Jesus Christ. Lena was predeceased by her parents, John and Hilda (nee Ouwerkerk) Luyt, who were immigrants from the Netherlands, and by her husband, John William Gilhuis. She is survived by her children, Barbara (late Terry) Moore, Mark (Babette), John (Leanne), Bill (Rosanna), David, and Paul (Jennifer) Gilhuis. Lena was also predeceased by three grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, and Matthew Gilhuis, and all of her siblings, Cora, George, Jeannie, Peter, John, and Richard Luyt. She will be missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Lena was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who supported many causes in Jesus' name. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the PSWs from Care Partners for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Doors Canada. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Kendrick Funeral Home, Chatham. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Thames Christian Fellowship, followed by interment at McVicar Cemetery.
