Dr. Peter Fitzgerald

Dr. Peter Fitzgerald passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan, and their children, Daniel, Katie, and Kevin, as well as his grandchildren, including Ciaran. Peter is also survived by his siblings, Bill, Maureen, Michael, and Carol. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Theresa, and his brother, Ed. As a dedicated Pediatric General Surgeon at McMaster Children's Hospital for over 30 years, Peter was committed to providing exceptional care to his patients and their families. He served as President of the hospital from 2008 to 2019 and was a respected teacher and mentor to many medical students and professionals. Peter will be remembered for his passion for sports, his love of travel, and his dedication to his family and community. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral services. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre, McMaster Children's Hospital.
