Peter Sr. SZABO
Peter Szabo Sr. passed away quietly in his sleep on June 27, 2026, at the age of 100, while a resident of Richmond Terrace Long Term Care Facility in Amherstburg, Ontario. Born in Hungary in 1925, Peter immigrated to Canada with his mother in 1928 to join his father. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 and was assigned to convoy escort duties across the North Atlantic. Peter was honourably discharged in 1946, having earned the Canadian Volunteer Service medal, the War medal, and the Atlantic Star for his service. Following the war, Peter had a career as a supervisor and general foreman at the Windsor Chrysler Assembly Plant for 40 years until his retirement. He shared his later years with his friend and travelling companion Julie Hunt. Peter was predeceased by his sisters Mary and Helen and his son David (2023). He is survived by his sister Margaret Bondy, son Peter Jr. (Cathy), daughter-in-law Lynda Prouse (David), and daughter Terry McCarthy (Brian), as well as his four grandchildren: Jennifer, Michael, David Jr., and Shannon, and his great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Jaycee, Zaria, and Braedon. Peter was a kidney donor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Visitation will be held at James H. Sutton Funeral Home, 401 Sandwich Street South, Amherstburg.
