ADRIAN VANDERMEER

Adrian Vandermeer, the esteemed founder of Vandermeer Nursery in Ajax, Ontario, passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Monster, Holland, Adrian began his career in horticulture at the tender age of 10, working in his father's greenhouse during the war. After immigrating to Canada, he worked in tobacco fields and lumber camps before establishing Vandermeer Nursery in 1961, which grew into a beloved family-owned garden centre serving the Durham Region. Adrian was actively involved with St. Bernadette's Church, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Knights of Columbus, supporting community initiatives and assisting newcomers. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as sailing, cross-country skiing, and camping, and cherished time spent in his greenhouse. Adrian is survived by his five children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral service will take place at McEachnie Funeral Home on September 2nd at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
